The High Dependency Unit (HDU) provides hospitalisation conditions of intensive monitoring and care, mainly for patients whose clinical condition is improved enough without needing mechanical support so as to leave the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
It also accommodates patients whose clinical condition is either aggravated or fickle, such as patients after cardiological, radiological or surgical interventions. It is equipped with modern recording devices for vital signs and clinical parameters, fully stocked with means and medicines for resuscitation, controlled IV administration systems (pumps), as well as back-up mechanical support systems.
The general operation of this Department is organised and supervised in the exact same manner as the ICU, as these two facilities are related.
