Intensive care unit & ambulance
In the heart of our city, easily accessible and near all amenities, we make every effort to provide the best services on this important moment; with carefully thought delivery plans we make the Bioclinic’s exceptional services affordable for everyone.
Delivery rooms
Two floors cover all stages of labour from the admission of the future mother to the birth of the baby. The delivery rooms are on the same level (6th floor) as the room for interventional labour when needed, and in direct contact with the operating room and the ICU. The delivery rooms are supported by a cardiotocography unit equipped with a central monitoring station of the latest wireless technology (MONICA system).
The delivery reception area has 5 delivery rooms fully equipped for natural labour and two alternative delivery rooms “like home”. Women in labour are taken care of in accordance with certified procedures and medical protocols that guarantee the safe and high-quality support and coverage of labour. Both medical and nursing staff take care of and support mother with knowledge and experience, so that they welcome with peace and safety their babies.
After the delivery, monitoring continues and the first breast-feeding takes place.
Neonatal ICU – Phototherapy
The Thessaloniki Bioclinic features a level 2 neonatal ICU staffed with specialised personnel. If intensive monitoring of the newborn is needed, the clinic has 4 isolettes that are supplied with oxygen and under continuous monitoring. If level 3 intensive care is needed, once the newborn’s condition has been stabilised, it is immediately transferred in a special isolette and the clinic’s ambulance to a special unit accompanied by a neonatologist.
The clinic can provide phototherapy for neonates suffering from jaundice.
Innovative plans
The Thessaloniki Bioclinic is the first clinic to implement innovative plans for (A) natural deliveries of one or two days and (B) caesarian sections of 3 and 4 days, reducing significantly the cost of birth-giving. The support provided by experienced midwives to future mothers, even after they return home, is key to this process.
A new service complements the plans of BIOCLINIC (“Eleftho” room): BIRTH as in a home setting (or Birth like at home)
The plan’s philosophy:
The Thessaloniki Bioclinic for once more bringing innovation to the department of obstetrics by introducing birth in a home setting. The concept behind this kind of birth is that the woman would like to feel as if she were giving birth at home, but with the safety and discreet monitoring of a fully organised general hospital. This plan is designed for natural births, with the new mother staying in the clinic for 24 hours after giving birth. She gives birth and remains in the same room together with the newborn (rooming in). The room’s bed is the same special bed used for labour. The room is decorated in a homely way, which can be changed to accommodate the couple’s wishes. This room is separate from the rest of the obstetrics facilities and also has a living room for family an friends.
Advantages:
- The future mother and thus the couple has the feeling that they are in a home environment not in a clinic.
- The newborn stays close to its parents for as long as the new mother stays in the room
- There is the added safety of the clinic for any problems that might arise, and the discreet presence of midwifes and doctors
- The new mother can have her partner close to her, as well as relatives and friends, or in a separate room when she wishes to be alone (e.g. to breast feed)
- She can go about comfortably without having to remain in bed. This is also supported by the innovative cardiotocography system (MONICA).
