Detection of pathogens in biological fluids and tissues facilitates diagnosis in a large portion of clinical problems.
The microbiology lab supports the operation of the hospital around the clock, by performing tests (e.g. blood cultures in an automated analyser) that are of great importance in the proper diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from an infection.
This department performs microbiological tests and cultures of biological fluids (nasal, pharyngeal, sputum, urine, pleural effusion, urethral, prostate, vaginal, sperm), stool, nails and skin lesions for common microbes (aerobes – anaerobes), mycoplasma, ureaplasma and chlamydia.
Identification of pathogens is carried out using an automated analyser at the same time determining the minimum inhibitory concentration of antibiotics, thus providing the attending doctor with the ability to choose the most appropriate antibiotic for the patient.
This lab is ISO 9001 certified and successfully applies the quality management system.
